Hi my name is June I am a dog lover since I was 1 years old , when I was brought up on a
farm with dogs, puppies, and other animals, I think this is animal cruelty, why cant the
RSPCA come in and get rid of all the dogs and puppies, at the puppy farms , on , why cant
the people who run the puppy farms, have an open area, in stead, of cages,
like some of the pet resorts, where there is a hugh open area, and let the dogs , run around
and let the puppies, mingle with each other, the cages I see on the puppy farms are
discusting, small , and it is a pauling, why cant the government do something,
has Oscar,s law being passed in parliment yet, please, can someone tell me. thanks june

Permalink Reply by ann on January 7, 2012 at 9:07pm oscars law was passed in parliament in october. it meas that the rspca has more powers and they can start issuing greater fines for these type of people.

THAT is good news.... Butwhat STATE was it???
Most of them have NOT brought these Laws in and they also have no intention of doing so.
If I hear of someone wanting to buy a Dog, ANY Dog.... I tell them to find a Breeder and buy direct... and then tell them WHY I said that... So far I have had 3 friends follow my advice.
But I know how hard it is when you see the Puppies in a Pet Shop.... I saw some Cav's... have doubts if they were purebred, but they WERE Cav's.... and at the price asked... I could buy from a Breeder for the same money and have change left over.

Permalink Reply by Rick on January 10, 2012 at 8:26am Hi June...
PART of the reason for cages is that by having cages, the "breeder" ( NOTE I have NOT called them by the proper name of Breeder....), can keep a close eye on proceedings.... without having to run all over trying to catch the Mom or Her pups.
MANY of these so called breeders... are in a Suburban back yard, and thus do not have much room.On THAT point, I have one thing to say... "If you don't have the room for proper breeding then get out and stop being cruel".
I am proud to be able to say that I have been instrumental in having 2 Puppy Mills closed down in this area... but there are a lot more to go. One was easy to do but the other took some time.

I am looking to see who it is in our State Government in charge of this. Maybe even send it to the Feds as well....
But when you have a Liar like Combet I don't hold much hope there.
Permalink Reply by ann on January 10, 2012 at 9:19am Rick, If you are interested there are cards and stickers available from RSPCA Victoria about closing puppy farms - Oscars Law, and not buying from pet shops.
The Agriculture Minister - peter.walsh@parliament.vic.gov.au has an official statement available about the new laws given to the RSPCA in prosecuting these type of people. Previously these duties were only done through local councils. If you need anymore information please let me know

Yes Please....
The more info I have to give my Pollies the better. I have NOT been able to find who has Agriculture as yet... but then again I have not looked at the COMPLETE List as yet.
June....
I TOTALLY AGREE with you.
The last one I had a part in closing down... a Young Couple came to me for a signature.... They told me the full story about a Pup they had just bought... Anywway after a couple of questions from me, I signed their papers, and while they wre still here phoned the RSPCA, and also someone in the Government, and also Council.
About 2 months later I get a phone call, from the RSPCA, thanking me for the info.... and I thanked the young couple.
ONE DOWN.... sadly far too many to go,.
Permalink Reply by Rick on January 10, 2012 at 9:57am I agree Ann.
It certainly would be lovely to close them ALL, but sadly.... reality is that they will ALWAYS be around... Maybe not as many... but they will never be stamped out.
