I live in East Gippsland and my dog's name is Dolly.

I can't say I *love* living in this state, though- especially with these ridiculous new laws I now live in fear that my dog will be seized and killed because of her appearance :( I think it would be much nicer to live in a state without BSL, and a state without over the top ridiculous pet laws.

Thanks Belinda for your comment. I agree about what you are saying about the new dog laws. I think the new laws are totally unfear. For although there are some dog breeds with a bad reputation not all dogs are like that.

I my self have a golden retreiver butI understand what you mean.

There is a dog behind my house that is never walked and is neglected. This dog is the same breed as yours. And when I went for a walk by there fence once I notised a dangerous dog sign. What I then did I should not have done. I then went up and looked through a hole in the fence. I think the family must have been on a long holiday for the blinds where shut, the grass was well over long and they had left a huge pile of dog food out that could last well over a month. I then did some thing real stupid I stuck my hand in. Then the big sort of scary dog ran to me I paniced and went to take my arm out when the dog went and put its toy in the palm of my hand. I did not no what to do so I threw it. Sure enough all the poor dog wanted was some one to play with so I stayed there and played fetch with this poor dog for about 10 minetes. This really showed that even with a bad reputation all dogs should be given a second chance for some dogs may look mean but are just gental giants.

Hi,
BSL (Breed Specific Legislation) is a sick and disgusting murderous joke.
I have worked in resue and rehabilitation of pets for years.
I have years of Animal Behaviour work that attests to the absolute fact that the DNA of a dog does not set it's course in life, it does not mean that that dogs genetic makeup will define it's destiny or its behaviour.
A dog is a social being, it learns and develops it's entire life.
A dog is shaped by it's early environment, it learns from it's social circle (It's pack and the leadership) about what is expected and waht the rules and boundaries of acceptable and wanted behaviours will be.
Dogs that are within the influence of good, experienced, strong leadership that provides good calm social balance, good appropriate  levels of excercise, environmental enrichment, play and discipline, where there are clearly defined adn managed rule ad boundaries will have  a dog that is social, well balanced, calm and polite!
A dog that posses no threat to anyone or anything!
A dog in the hands of persons who either do not understand, or cannot apply basic principles such as those above - are creating an environment that is NOT good for a dog, some dogs will be able to self manage in that environment other may not - but again - that is NOT a breed thing at all!  It is the dogs personality!
Then there are those who atre attracted to certain breeds adn who eitehr have no clue about management - and they want a dog to behave like something they have seen in a tv or movie  productions - HIGHLY TRAINED and WELL MANAGED dogs - because a dedicated trainer has given them the training and environment they need to be their best!!
To think that the way a dog looks or it's genetic makeup just automatically means that a puppy from that "type" will turn out like that is far too common - having a dog that is what you want and need takes your time, your involvement and your consistent efforts!
The problem with BSL - is that often the "NASTY" types get certain looking / breeds of dogs and then actively brutalise them in so many ways that they become unstable - they want 'pig dogs' (hunting dogs) they want "Guard Dogs", they want dogs for "Dog Fighting rings".
Those are the real problems!
It is the PEOPLE who bring these dogs into ill repute!
It is the PEOPLE who destroy the sweet dog and change him/her into a potential timebomb.
ALL dogs start out as innocent, maleable little souls who look to their family, their pack to learn adn grow and develop....
It is NEVER the breed..... IT is ALWAYS the HUMANS who developed dogs with issues that are the problem!
I will add right now that I have dealt with many dogs deemed over the top in one behaviour or another... they range from very small 'lap dogs' , right through the spectrum of breed and mixes, and I have never met a dog that could not be rehabilitated when they were given the right guidleins and the humans involved made the changes to the dogs environemnt that this dog needed.
A dog is always infuenced by waht is going on in the moment...
A dog who is placed in a good environment CAN and WILL change!
Which goes to prove, it is NOTthe dog, it is the HUMANS who are the problem...
Remove the dog from the PROBLEM environment and let it know that is is part of a pack it can follow and trust... the dog TRANSFORMS!
Ban bad owners - DONT ban the breeds
