More about Twinklebee!

When I wrote to introduce Twinklebee I forgot to write some things about her but that's ok -hopefully there's plenty more time for that.  I left out some of the words she knows/tricks she can do but that's ok, and we are on a mission to keep learning!  She seems to really enjoy it- she'll wake up from her evening nap and ask to play- she's got a few different ways to ask, and she doesn't give up!  I like trying to keep her mind occupied and doing new things with her and it's usually a great…

Introducing Twinklebee!

Introducing Twinklebee!  Twinklebee has just turned four and is a maltese cross chihuahua.  She is my first dog and truly such an enormous blessing and lifeline.  She has earned herself the title of my 'rescue dog'. People will often say 'look after mummy', and she does, beautifully.  Some say she is spoilt but I say no, no way compared to what she does for me.  She is so affectionate, perceptive and intuitive and always responds to what she perceives in a compassionate and beautiful…

Thank you for your advise

I am curently trying to teach him to stop eating random things and have been trying to teach him this for a long time. It has worked slowly and he is doing better. He no longer eats close from the washing line. And we have an old cubby house in our yard which I used to play in and now my little brother does. And we used to have to close the door every time we went out of the cubby house, or else Barney would go in and start eating all of the plastic toys. This really worried me ecspecally when he eat a giant statue of a cow from the cubby. This statue was about the size of a small couch cushion. Lucky nothing bad happened to him. One night we locked him in the cubby because there was a storm and we rather him eating things from the cubby then eating things from the garage, which was where we used to put him in a storm. He did not like being in the cubby for the hole night and has not gone in the cubby since. Although Barney is slowly getting Better and obaying rules, he still picks up roten food, and old peices of carbord and any thing else he finds when we go on walks. Since we have Barney proofed our back yard from any thing eatable ( ecsept his own poo and grass, which he still  eats ) there is nothing other then walks to worry about. I have been told to just firmly yell, but he does not listern. I have been told to hit him on the nose, but I am not that mean. And I do try to yank the leash, but being a large dog that almost ways the same as me I do struggle. I have now dicided that I am going to use a new method. I will take treats with me on a walk and every time Barney try's to eat some thing I will say stop loudly and give him a treat. I will keep doing this until even with out food he will no to drop the food on the comand. I hope this work's as it has in the past when I taught him to do tricks. Please reply if you to agree with my method or have any other tips I can use to help teach Barney.

Thanks From Brianna Smale and of cause Barney

P.s I am not that good at school and I apologise for my crapy spelling. :-)

Hello Thanks for the gift and comment.

I will ask advise in the next dogslife mag for I have already sent an email of asking for advice about Barneys separation anxiety. Barney does have separation anxiety and gets very horrified when there are loud noises such as fire works, gun shots ( duck season ) loud airplanes and the garbage truck. It was real bad, to the point where the vet suggested putting him down, but we all refused and helped him and now with him on the new medication he is doing a lot better and even the vet has notised. I will try out my new method and will do this in the back reserve behind our house which we usely walk down and where there are plenty of distractions. Thanks for your advise and I will be sure to post new comments on your page to undate you on Barneys inprovment.

I have not yet started training Barney for at the moment I am at my friends house and have been for the last week. My parents are on a holiday at the moment and we have taken Barney to a persons house who looks after dogs when the parents are away. I am missing him so much but I no he is in good hands for he has been there before the the owners are loverly. We now are a lot closer to the owners and they where nice enough to let Barney sleep inside there own house if there was a storm and they also let him inside when the Geelong show fire works where on. I am looking forward to seeing him at the end of the week when I go home and am planning of training him when he is back. I am not sure I have said this or not yet but I have been to your dogslife page and think your dog photos are adorable. Thanks a heap from Brianna and of cause Barney =-)

Last time i commented I was at my friends house because my parents had gone on a 10 day holiday with out me, and I had not get started training Barney for he was at a place where they look after your dog when you are on holiday. Since then I have started my training and he is doing great, I am so proud of him. Thanks you the birthday wish he had a great day, gosh the years have flown by real fast.

Any way my parents are back and I am back with Barney and the women at the place we left him was real nice and said that Barney loved it and also let him inside when the geelong show fire works where on. Any way my training is going great and he does not even run up to stranges for pats on walks even more. I am so proud of him. Oh and I looked at your pictures and they are so sweet.
